Australian Zoo: Home of the Crocodile Hunter

Australian Zoo!
Home of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.

Every morning and dusk I look forward to the songs of the several birds that hang around Meg and Kens house. I got to see them up close today when we went to the Australian Zoo. I am not a fan of Zoos usually but this one really was nicely laid out with plenty of room for the animals and very clean. Some animals here are on the extinction list and this place does teach people why its so important to NOT buy certain products to save the species, and it also gives us hands on allowing people to feel certain emotions towards these creatures we cohabitant with. I know that I really loved the graceful movement of the giraffes, the incredible design of the Zebra and the cuddly softness of the koala.
With over 100 Acres to explore and hundreds of animals, we ventured onward on the safari bus that takes you out to the Rhinoceros's and camels, Tigers and Giant Aldavran Tortoises.
A portion from every dollar spent at the zoo goes to supporting conservation projects. Projects like protecting many species from extinction. I myself have never even heard of Cassowaries, Binturongs, Lemurs, Jabirus or Echidnas, but I did get to see a tasmanian devil and a Komodo Dragon! Did you know that Cassowaries are the 3rd largest bird in the world, they are flightless, and the female lays the eggs then leaves, the male sits on the eggs until they hatch and then watches the young until 18 months.

Now the bird show and Croc show was perhaps my favorite, we were lucky enough to be sitting next to the person that got chosen to have a bird come land on his arm. My favorite, the condor, it's size is just impressive. I tried uploading some video's but it didn't work. I  was amazed at the Crocodile facts and the huge croc that was on stage with the staff, even getting in the water with it. You will not see me swimming in northern Australia!
Even thou it rained the whole time at the zoo, I had a good time.
